Sad month for our pretty mountains

The unbelievable Panguitch Lake forest fire
(these first 4 pix I pulled from internet)

A  guy over at Brian Head decided to blow torch his weeds, after he had been told not to and wa la 70,000 acres burned right up!! Started at Brian head and then climbed quickly up over the mountain behind Panguitch Lake. The area was evacuated however my dad managed to stay up there. At one point he couldn't even see 10 ft in front of him when he stepped out of the cabin. They set up a post close to us and my dad watched the fire fighters hard at work. They literally saved 100's of cabins, fighting right up to their front doors. The fire came over the mountain by our cabin and right up to my uncle Dan's back door. Helicopters were dumping and fighters fighting it. It was like a war zone in our pretty little section of the wood.  My dad has told us over and over again how amazing those fire fighters are and how he has such a new respect for them.

This is looking right out our front window

People put up thank you signs. The general store had a sign up telling the fire fighters they could help themselves to the goods inside. When we were at the cabin after it was pretty much out there were still firemen going around checking things. Emery drew them a picture and wrote a little note and we were able to deliver it to a couple firemen close. They were really cute about it.

wow are we ever lucky and thankful to everyone who worked so hard! There are definitely area's around the lake that are so sad to look at now, but things look great in our little spot.
